March Meeting

Great turnout Tuesday evening for the presentation on Software Designed Radio by Dick, K4IQJ. Everyone seemed to enjoy the Mexican buffet and Dick did his usual outstanding job with the program.

We had some new visitors and an old member drop by. Good to see Larry, K4LRW back with us. Former member Mike, KF4OPX would have been there, but he is under the weather.

New members Terry, KA4Y and Frank, N4TKT were there. Also newcomers Mike, K4AIU and a friend of Ted, W4DUF was there also. Richard, AI4RY, who has a lot of experience with Whisper Radio (WSPR) was there too.

We had three students from Auburn University join us. I hope to see them often. Our club voted to offer membership to Auburn students at no charge.

I am working on a program for May meeting. Will update as it happens.

Possibility of two meetings in May. We need to discuss the Alabama QSO Party and Field Day operations.

January Meeting

Excellent turnout for the meeting tonight. Three new members: Ted, W4DUF; Dale, WA4CQG and Terry, KA4Y.

Cheryl, AA4YL presented the program on classic videos on amateur radio through the years.

Supper before the meeting was at the Mandarin House in Opelika.

On a side note, one of our new members gave us the best compliment ever. He said we were nothing like other clubs in the area. We were fun. I could not agree more. We don’t tie up meeting time with minutes, boring business topics, etc. We have a program and then spend the remainder time in good conversation, discussing ideas.

2013 RTTY RU

The RU went very well. Darrell, K9MUG; Gene, KI4EEY; Bob, KA4PKB and Cheryl, AA4YL participated, using the club call W4HOD.

Was great to have Gene at the keyboard. He operated about two hours.
