Many thanks to club member Dick, K4IQJ for the use of his Moseley Pro 67-C. He had no room to install it at his QTH, and let us put it up outside the club house.

We have used it in several contests and it works very well.

Heart of Dixie ARS in the Heartland

Work continues on finalizing travel plans to North Dakota.

Club members will gather in Fargo on Thursday, July 14. Setup will begin on Friday morning and if necessary, finish up on Saturday morning. Check back here for any further updates.

Work has begun on the QSL card for the expedition, but won’t be finalized until after the contest is over. It looks very good. It is being printed by KB3IFH.  Randy has printed several different cards for the club. Club member AA4YL, also used Randy for her personal cards. Great service and excellent quality.

HODARS members will be presenting a forum of the expedition at the 2011 Huntsville, AL hamfest. Drop by if you can.

Thursday Evening VE Test & Happy Hour

Congrats to Ken, KJ4ZYC, from Montgomery for passing his Extra class exam Tuesday evening. Not only did he pass, but did not miss a single answer. This VE has not seen many amateurs accomplish that.

After the test, Ken,  VE Hal- KJ4TD, Bob- KA4PKB; and VE Cheryl- AA4YL adjourned to Moe’s Southwest Grill for happy hour. Great conversation and fellowship was in abundant supply.

Bob loaned Ken one of our spud guns to test out. We will build Ken one as soon as possible.

Speaking of spud guns, we are hearing of people using propane to fuel their launcher. We have found there is no need for such extreme measures. A simple tire stem and bicycle pump or small air compressor work fine.

2011-2012 Membership Directory

Working on the 2011-2012 membership directory for HODARS. Tweaking it and getting it ready to mail next week. It is up to date and has the newest members in it.

I did not include the By-Laws and Constitution, as they are archaic and too exclusive. HODARS will vote and amend them soon to create a more open, positive tone. HODARS is not an exclusive club and we do not want our official documents to sound like we are.

Spudniks and Ice Cream

Tonight  was great fun. Deyl, KD4FD; Tom, KE4TWE; his wife Reta; Darrell, K9MUG; Bob, KA4PKB; and Cheryl, AA4YL met at the HRC to finish up as many Spudniks as we could. We did manage to finish one for Deyl, Darrell, and Tom. We will finish up the rest as soon as we can.

Tom, KE4KWE, Reta, and Bob, KA4PKB

John, KI4KUT dropped by for a few minutes and it was great to see him.

Tom and Reta paid dues and are now official members of HODARS. Great to have them with us.

Tom paid the club a great compliment. He said we know how to have fun. That we do.

After the Spudnik session, we all went to Dairy Queen for ice cream and some great talk.

Spud Gun Construction Finale

Tonight is the Spudnik finale at the Health Resource Center. We will meet at 6 PM to finish up the spud gun construction.

We will be meeting in the large room on the left as you come in the front door. This room has a lots of room to spread out.

Eat before you come, or bring a brown bag supper to eat in the meeting room.

Spud Gun Update

The Spudnik construction meeting went well.  Six Spudniks were built for club members. Time did not allow for completion of all of them, but we will meet again this month and finish them up.

The best news was the presence of Deyl, KD4FD at the meeting. We have not seen Deyl in a while and it is great to have her back with the club.

What’s that sound?! It’s Spudnik!

The March meeting of HODARS is scheduled for March 8th. As usual the meeting will be held at the Health Resource Center across from EAMC on Pepperell  Parkway. Meeting begins at 7 PM. Pre meeting supper will be at a local eating establishment, which has not been selected yet. We meet at 6 Pm for the evening meal.

The program this month is a do it yourself project, making spud guns. It should be very interesting, as Mr. Spudnik- Mike, KI4TWB  will be heading up the instructions, with assistance from Bob, KA4PKB.

Mike and Bob constructed one for club use and it has worked really well.

September Meeting A Success

September meeting of HODARS was great fun. Frank McLemore, N4TKT had a great program on grounding and protection against lightening. He even had gifts for everyone in attendance.

Supper was very good with lots of fellowship. We were honored to have Dean, KI4LLX visiting us and hope he returns soon. Stew, K4JOP joined the club at the meeting and we look forward to having him and his wife, Aina, KD4SCH join us often.
